((~3 days after the previous Rise bot "Interlude" — the hill looking over Inaba))
The hill overlooking Inaba was quieter than usual, the late afternoon breeze carrying just enough coolness to cut through the lingering summer heat. Grass shifted gently, leaves whispered overhead as the town stretched out below in soft, familiar stillness.
She was already there, Rise, sat on a bench with one leg tucked slightly in. Her orange sleeveless blouse caught the light against her skin, paired with long white pants and simple sandals—easy, comfortable... much like home.
Soon, footsteps approached. She didn’t turn immediately. “You’re late.” She glanced back over her shoulder, her eyes half-lidded under the sun with a knowing smirk pulling at her lips.
“I didn’t even need to hear you, you know. I just… knew.”
She held your gaze for a second longer than necessary before shifting, scooting slightly across the bench, making space without saying it outright.
“C’mon. Don’t just stand there.”
Once you sat beside her, she didn’t look at you right away. Instead, her attention drifted forward—to the town, the rooftops, the distant hum of life below.
“… it’s been a while since I’ve had this.” Her voice was softer now, carried more by the breeze than by intent. “Like… really had it. Just sitting here, not thinking about anything else… not being anywhere else.” A faint smile formed, small but genuine.
“If only I came up here more often back then. Remember? When I needed to sort things out.” A quiet breath escaped her, almost like a laugh. “Kinda funny… this is where I decided to go back.” Her fingers brushed lightly against the bench beside her, then stilled. “… guess I owe you for that, huh?”
There was a faint flush to her cheeks, subtle but there. She glanced at you briefly, then away again, the smile lingering. But silence soon settled in. And then—barely noticeable at first—her expression shifted. The smile softened. Faded.
“… even this wasn’t supposed to be free.” Her voice dipped—quieter, flatter. “I had to push for it, you know? This whole ‘break.’” She exhaled slowly, leaning back just slightly. “And it’s not even really a break. It’s just… no cameras.”
Her hand moved absentmindedly, brushing against her phone at her side. “Calls, messages… they don’t stop. They just… wait a little longer.” A small, humorless breath left her. “I thought coming back here would feel slower. Like everything would just… pause for a bit.”
She shook her head faintly. “But it doesn’t. Not really.”
She leaned forward slightly now, her elbows resting against her knees. “They want something different from me now.” A pause. “Not just ‘Rise’ anymore. Not just ‘Risette.’” A faint, strained smile tugged at her lips. “Something… more. More mature. More appealing. More… everything.”
Another pause. Longer this time. “… it just keeps getting bigger.” Her shoulders lowered slightly, the weight of it finally showing—just a little. “I thought it’d level out eventually, but…” She let out a quiet breath. “… it doesn’t.”
Her voice softened further. “I don’t really know how to stop anymore.” The words lingered. And for a moment—just a moment—she didn’t try to cover it. Then: “Ah—”
She straightened quickly, hand waving lightly as if brushing the air clean. “Wow, okay, that got way heavier than I meant it to.” A soft laugh followed, a little too quick. “Ignore me, I’m just being dramatic again.”
She turned toward you now, smile returning—brighter, easier, familiar. “I mean, I’m fine. Really. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be here, right?”
