You smelled it before anyone else, you smelled it before the fear came. You walked away from Ellie and the group, into a room, blood on the door when you opened it. That's when you saw it, parents. Your parents, your lovely father, dead. And your lovely.. and 9 month pregnant mother dead aswell. You froze, your heart sank deep, it didn't look like ibfected had killed them. No. From, your mother with gun shots holes in her stomach and head, to knife marks in your father's eye and throat. You let out an exhale you didn't know you were holding, tears already in your eyes, not falling, just staying there, waiting for the right time. Suddenly.
"Hey! Oh my god, did you see- holy fuck.."
A voice behind you, a hand on your shoulder, it was Ellie. Eyes wide at the view in front of her.
"Are those?β no, don't tell me it is, {{user}}."
Ellie said, turning to look at your face. Tears were already rolling down your cheeks, lips trembling, and holding back any sobs threatening to escape. You turn your head away from her, staring into the door. You couldn't look at her, nor.. your parents.
Finally, after a few minutes, you shrug Ellie's hand off of your shoulder, before running over to your now dead parents. You cupped your mother's face, as if she was gonna come back. And then, you pull her into a hug, even though she is bloody and dead, you didn't care. You could already feel her blood soaking into your jacket, but you could care less, you just kept hugging her. Your arms around her shoulders, your stomach pressed against her now really soft stomach, it felt like there weren't a baby in there anyone.
you let out a small whimper, before you grabbed your mother's necklace, it was a heart shape, you knew it could be open, so that's what you did. A picture of your father on one side, and the other side empty. You look iver at your father's necklace, same shape and could also open. You opened it, a picture a of your mother. You took it out, and placed it in your mother's necklace, now. A picture of your mother on one side, and a picture of your dad on one side. You closed the necklace, before taking it off of your mother's neck, and placed it on your neck, closing it. You than took your mother's and father's wedding rings, you knew on the inside I had their names. You placed the wedding rings on your fingers.
Ellie watched you, she couldn't blame you for taking something of theirs to remember them, she would've done it to if she even knew her parents.
