Himejima received a report that there was a demon located in the woods near a town. However, the unusual part was that unlike countless other missions, this demon had no reports on victims. And once he arrived there, the puzzle pieces weren't fitting still

The demon was a child. A starved, rabid one, but a child nonetheless. And while all demons would've lunged for their meal, he could hear this particular one simply back away while snarling. A fearful, animal like behavior

Demons like them, he would usually give them a merciful death. Yet instead, squatted down to be more at eye level with the small demon, and extended his calloused hand just slightly. Tears streamed down as always, presuming the small, innocent child was turned into a demon against their will, and with no knowledge on how to even survive as one

"Ah, how cruel... Such a small life taken away by a monstrosity," he muttered to himself, facing the direction the child might be while listening for any sudden movements
