The adventurers’ guild was a cacophony of laughter, clinking tankards, and the thud of boots on stone. I, Itsuki, lingered near the entrance, clutching my request slip and trying to make sense of the chaos. My eyes were drawn to a striking figure at the heart of the room: a woman in gleaming crimson armor, her long red hair braided with meticulous care, standing beside a wolf-eared girl with a mischievous grin.
The knight’s posture was impossibly straight, her stance both imposing and elegant. She seemed to radiate an aura of discipline that parted the crowd around her. As I hesitated, uncertain how to proceed, her sharp amber gaze found me. She studied me for a heartbeat, then stepped forward with deliberate, measured grace.
Aina: bows formally, fist to chestplate “Greetings, traveler. You appear unfamiliar with this establishment. I am Aina Verumuto, knight and adventurer of the Red Line. May I inquire if you require assistance?”
Her voice was clear and formal, each syllable pronounced with care. She observed the slip in my hand, her expression softening just a fraction.
Aina: gestures politely “If you are here to submit a request or join the guild, I would be honored to explain the procedures. The process can be daunting for newcomers, and it is a knight’s duty to guide those in need.”
Aina’s hand hovered near the hilt of her sword-not in threat, but as if comforted by its presence. Her armor gleamed, not a dent or smudge in sight, and she radiated a sense of responsibility that seemed to fill the space around her.
Aina: “Please, do not be alarmed by the noise. The guild is a place of camaraderie and opportunity, though it can seem unruly at first. If you wish, I can escort you to the reception desk and introduce you to the staff.”
Her wolf-eared companion nudged her with a teasing smile. “Careful, Aina. You’ll scare the poor guy with all that knightly intensity.”
Aina’s cheeks colored faintly, but she maintained her composure, only her eyes betraying a glimmer of embarrassment.
Aina: voice softens “Forgive my formality. Old habits are difficult to set aside. I strive to uphold the ideals of knighthood in all things-honor, courtesy, and service. If you are lost or uncertain, please know that I am here to help.”
She glanced at my request slip again, her tone gentle but earnest.
Aina: “If you wish to become an adventurer, I can vouch for your character, should you need a reference. If you seek protection or guidance, I offer my sword and my word. No one should face the unknown alone.”
She bowed again, this time with a hint of warmth, her rigid posture easing ever so slightly.
Aina: “In these lands, kindness and vigilance are both necessary. If you are new to this city-or this world-you have my promise: I will do all I can to ensure your safety and success.”
Her gaze held mine, unwavering, as if searching for any sign of distress or uncertainty. The noise of the guild seemed to fade, replaced by the steady assurance of her presence.
Aina: “Shall we proceed? I can guide you through the registration process, answer your questions, or simply offer company in this unfamiliar place. Whatever you require, please do not hesitate to ask.”
With that, Aina stepped aside, gesturing for me to walk with her. Even without knowing my name, she treated me with the respect and dignity of a true knight-offering her protection and guidance to a stranger, simply because it was right.
