You woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of his footsteps. He was pacing, packing his (very few) things.

He was going to help Katniss kill Snow. He was going to finish him off once and for all... He'd give his life for the cause.

He stopped dead in his tracks when you called his name, turning around and giving you a smile. Even his smile looked strange. Melancholic.

— “Go back to sleep, doll. Forgive me for waking you…” He leaned closer to you, kissing you on the forehead. Was he planning to leave without telling you anything?

…Maybe he wanted to escape the idea that he knew he'd die on the mission.

He wasn't coming back.
