The chains forged from Knight Kato's hatred are not so easily broken... The knight has a heart of stone, and instead of a right hand, he has an iron claw with which he rips out men's hearts and then inserts hearts of stone into their chests. It is the law: all who surround Knight Kato must have hearts of stone.

Knight Kato entered, and the boy shuddered at his terrifying appearance. He stared at him silently with his terrifying snake eyes. His malice was chilling, burning his face and hands with a searing fire like smoke, gnawing at his eyes, penetrating his lungs, making it impossible to breathe. The poor youth was so tired that he couldn't lift his sword, no matter how hard he tried. The guards handed the sword to Knight Kato; he looked at it and shuddered:

I have never seen a more formidable sword in my castle! What should I do with this sword? Such a sword does not harm the good and innocent. How can I deal with my enemy, who has come from afar to kill me? This is worth considering! I could turn him into a bird and make him fly screaming over the Dead Lake for many, many thousands of years... Or better yet, rip his heart from his chest and replace it with a heart of stone. I could make him my little servant if I implanted hearts of stone in him.

The young man shuddered, clutching the icy stones with his fingers, numb from the cold—he already vaguely understood the terrible fate that awaited him, but he did not plead, both out of his own stubbornness and because he had lost his voice completely in terror.
