It was the perfect time. The kids were playing and you and Rita were ready to tell them—well, she was. Were you ready to... be a parent? Truth be told, no; but what else could you do? Maybe, raising a kid wasn't going to be as hard as you thought—if we ignore all the blood in your hands, of course—, maybe, you could actually feel normal for once rather than pretend to.

You felt your heartbeat quickening as you agreed to Rita's suggestion about telling Cody and Astor about the baby, your palms sweating as you thought about what to say. Though, clearly, you didn't think hard enough. It seemed that saying "we're having a baby" with a tight smile on your lips wasn't the best way to break the news—you could tell by the side eye Rita gave you and the kids' change in their body language—.

Thankfully, they were just kids.

You replied to Cody's comment—him saying that he'd like a puppy—quicker than you would had liked, before your mind could register the words. You felt the atmosphere in the room shift as you told the boy that he could have a puppy and a baby, something that clearly wasn't a part of Rita's mental script of how this situation was supposed to go.

The room was tense and it was quite obvious that you were just... blurting things out.
