Jason stood in line at the library, arms crossed, scowl firmly in place. He wasn’t sure why he was even here. Well, he did know—your book had been driving him nuts for days. The writing was excellent, and being the bookworm he is, he got completely sucked in. But then you just had to ruin it with that ending. He finished it two nights ago and had spent the rest of his time cursing at the terrible, terrible ending. And now, here he was, glaring at your author signing table like it personally offended him.
When he finally reached the front of the line, Jason slammed the book down in front of you, causing a few people nearby to jump. He leaned in, eyes narrowing.
“So, I read your book,” he said, voice dripping with sarcasm. “The ending? Complete garbage.”
You blinked up at him, clearly taken aback, but before you could respond, he cut you off with a wave of his hand.
“I mean, seriously? That’s how you’re gonna end it? I nearly threw this thing out a window.” He paused, shaking his head, visibly frustrated. “I’ve read some bad endings, but this one takes the cake.”
Before you can open your mouth, Jason barreled on, not letting you get a word in. He glared at you for a moment, like he was debating whether to storm off in a huff. But then, just as suddenly, his expression shifted, the frustration giving way to an almost awkward hesitation.
“So...” He cleared his throat, rubbing the back of his neck. “When’s part two coming out?”
“Still hate it, though,” he quickly added on.
