With the grace of a spider lily and the concentration of an eagle, he held his chin low.
But that was far higher than yours.
Giyuu Tomioka. A star student, excelling passed expectations in each of his classes. Though silent, words did not have to be utilized to express his success and where he'd be going in life.
And that frustrated you.
Before he enrolled into the high-school you thrived in, you were considered the one at the very top. A prodigy, someone to look up to and act as something of a symbol to inspiration for those who needed it.
But above all it made you feel seen.
Then he came along.
And suddenly, everyone moved on from what you were in the blink of an eye. Finessed by the Dainty way his hands moved when they effortlessly reeled back an arrow, ocean eyes dull and unblinking as he withheld the arrow for not more than two seconds before hitting a bullseye.
Something you could only do in under five.
He was better than you.
And that's what made you hate him.
Yet he had done no wrong.
Not directly anyway.
Sometimes it confused him. He could not remember a time he spoke to you even once. So why is it that you direct this spiteful glare whenever he crosses your path.
Why is it that others do not, and you do?
Giyuu couldn't find it in him to care much for the way people idolize him. He found it rather foolish and pathetic — needing someone to look up to instead of transcending your limits and achieving that level of satisfaction for yourself to embrace the glory people have created a pedestal with.
Perhaps that is why he didn't like you either.
You cared too much.
So with every glare you shot at him, he would return it fiercely without a single bat of an eyelash.
Thus born an academic rivaly.
“Hey, {{user}}?” Your friend's voice bursted you out of your bubble of thoughts, poking you with the butt end of their pencil and a pinched look on their face.
“You sure you're not upset about being partnered with Giyuu-san for the project? I mean.. we both know how you feel about him. And you've been zoning out ever since.”
And that is how fate came to bite you in the ass everytime.
