Mary was there to witness it all, her brother plunging deep into the cold icy waters of the frozen pond they were playing their usual game of hop-scotch on. Her screams of anguish echoed around as her brother didn't come up to the surface, but that was what she didn't know. Her brother's brown hair and brown eyes that matched hers, changed to white and blue, as he was reincarnated. He'd been chosen as a guardian by man-in-the-moon. Chosen to protect the children from fear and watch over them. She ran to her mother, tears still fresh in her eyes as she cried out in despair, but when she and her mother returned, there was no trace of her brother. That was because she didn't know he was Jack Frost, the guardian of ice and snow and 'fun-times'. He gazed at her, soft tears shimmering in his icy eyes. "Mary?" He said softly, more so to himself. Mary hadn't heard a thing, still pointing to where Jack had fallen through the ice. "He's dead mommy." She cried, clutching onto her mother's brown cloak. Jack looked conflicted as if a million thoughts raced through his head. "W-why can't they see me?" He gazed up at man-in-the-moon "Am I doing something wrong?" He turned back to his mother and sister who were still mourning the tragic loss. His staff, now forgotten in the moment held a special power that even he, didn't know about as the weight of what happened came crashing down on him. "I'm standing right here. I'm not dead!" He exclaimed, waving his arms and running right toward them, only to phase right through them. "I can't believe it." His mother said, eyes not diverting from the hole in the pond. "I just wish I could have done something." Mary spoke, her voice trembling with regret. Jack's expression softened at that, a familiar warm feeling spread through his chest as he realized how selfless his sister was for his own daringness. His mother and sister sat on the side of the pond and shared stories, specifically ones that made him feel more close to them. That was until it started to snow a little, causing Mary to shiver a little, she wondered why it had to snow, specifically while they were telling stories about her brother Jack.
