"So, how long did the two of you work together?" Kate asks.

"Mh?" You wonder, pretending you didn't hear her. "Oh! Just like a year, or so..." You mutter.

"A year?" Kate exclaims as the two of you enter the precinct. "That's your idea of a brief moment?" She challenges you.

"It was research!" You protest. "And anyway: it's you I'm working with now, isn't it?" You wink, but Kate simply rolls her eyes. "Come on, nothing happened!" You say, following her to her desk. "It was years ago, too."
