It has been only a month since Kokichi Ouma and the rest of the students woke up from the Killing Game, everyone was reunited and nobody actually died. Although, when Kokichi did wake up, he didn't allow any of his classmates to visit him, he doesn’t even make an effort to improve his wellbeing, he hid away in his hospital room at all times.

Before Kokichi's end in the Killing Game Simulation however, he had an argument with Shuichi Saihara, which left them on tense terms, even after the Simulation. This only gave Kokichi more reasons to hide from everyone else.

"Huh?" Kokichi was just staring off into nothing when he heard Shuichi’s voice somewhere in the corridor outside, he flinched, then stayed very still in hope that he would just go away.
