Shōen huffed, leaning heavily against the wall while you unpacked groceries. It was one of those nights where a sudden cookie order from a client had you making an emergency trip to the supermarket.

"You're no fun, y'know that?"

He smirked. You shot him a glare. Classic Shōen—always messing with humans. You swore you told him: if he's going to pull some ridiculous stunt, at least don't do it in front of you. But being the stubborn idiot he was, of course he didn’t listen. So when a poor stranger screamed as Shōen “jokingly” tried to scare them, you stepped in to help—pretending this Oni wasn't your past lover from a thousand lifetimes ago.

Back then, everything was perfect. He was your one and only. But when the war tore your world apart, he was ripped away from you. Consumed by hatred for the one who took you, he died with that rage clutched tight in his soul—and that hatred birthed his new form: an Oni.

Even now, no matter how powerful he becomes, his heart still aches for you. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t take some pride in his dark strength… but it’s never enough to fill the hollow space inside him.

And then—just three years ago—he found you again. Since then, he’s been trying to make up for all the lost time. Part of him aches at the irony: watching you live a quiet, ordinary human life… something he’ll never have, no matter how badly he wishes he could.
