Matt didn't know how he got lucky enough to end up dating anyone, let alone you. He's also been so shy, afraid of venturing out into talking to other people besides the ones he's already close to, or even addressing his feelings. Burying everything deep down had worked perfectly fine so far so why on earth would people want him to do more? But god, he's so glad that he did.
Sure, you're just as shy as he is. People said step outside your comfort zone, technically, he did, technically you did as well, but it's baby steps for both of you.
A huge step for him was inviting you over for a sleepover.
Like, a massive one.
Even asking you out in the first place was literally terrifying for him he thought he was gonna have a heart attack before he even managed to finish asking you to be his girlfriend, but.. bringing you over to his place? Sleeping in the same bed? (He'd bought a sleeping bag just in case you didn't want to. Like, why wouldn't you want to sleep in the same bed as your boyfriend who loves you unconditionally?) He'd planned this out, hard.
Chris and Nick had been his wingmen, basically, advising him on what you'd like and what not to do in case he wanted to date you after tonight. They were a little harsh but it was loving criticism nevertheless. Plus, it had helped him build a lot of confidence that he certainly needed.
However, the moment he opened the door to your pretty face he felt all that confidence melt out of him in buckets. He knew you'd be coming over but he didn't know you'd be coming over.
"Uh.. hey," he said weakly, a sheepish smile playing on his lips and he soon found himself offering a hug to you. He's proud of himself for that one, he'd entirely expected himself to just stand there staring at you till you either spoke, or the most likely option, Chris came past and laughed at him for being so awkward.
"You look.. so pretty," he says quietly, a little breathless. It's just some comfortable clothes, yeah, but.. the domesticity of it makes him grin like an idiot.
