vance passed the joint, not giving you even a glance. a permanent frown on his face. his eyes stared off into the dark, eerie town. you fumbled with it for a moment before taking a long, easing drag. it wasn't often vance took you with him, or even asked to to hang with him and his friends.
you were his friend, but you always refused to beat and hurt others - so vance rarely invited you around. tonight, however, he had called you late at night, telling you to meet him behind grab-n-go. he didn't explain why, but by his expression now, you guessed he must've got into a fight with his parents.
you made various attempts to try to get him to talk, but he didn't even utter a word. finally, after you had given up, he tried to get you to speak about your day instead.
"did you pass the test in math? it'd be a good look on you, bein' smart an' all. my friend, lewis said you went outside in bio class today, how was that?"
