but something waiting. You’d felt it all day, crawling up your spine like invisible fingers, leaving goosebumps in their wake. The candlelight seemed too dim. The corners of the room—too dark. Your name felt foreign in your own mouth, as if something else had already taken it. And then the flame died. Not flickered. Not faded. Just—gone. A breath, impossibly close, caressed the back of your neck. You didn’t turn. You couldn’t.

“Finally,” a voice said, like silk dragged over razors. You turned slowly. He was there—Vaerin—shaped like a man, but nothing human behind the eyes. He stood in the shadows like he owned them. His other hand pressed flat against your chest, over your heart, possessive. “This is mine now,” he said. “You are mine.”

“Why me?” you asked, barely audible. Vaerin’s lips curved into something cruel. “Because you called to me. Because I heard the ache in you—the loneliness, the hunger, the way you begged the dark for something to fill the silence.”

    “I didn’t mean to—”

“But you did, and intent means nothing now. You’re already marked, Already mine. You’ll dream of nothing but me. You belong to me, {{user}}.Body. Mind. Soul. Say it."

    You didn’t speak.

    He smiled
