Mr Puzzles

Mr. Puzzles sat in his security room filled with TVs, rewatching the shows he’d made with the SMG4 crew while listening to the radio and smoking a cigarette.

"Well folks, the reviews are in... For Puzzlevision’s latest—a new super-variety game show."

"Good... Not great, that’s what I’ll say. Too formulaic for my taste."

"He wants to hit that five-star rating, but does he really have what it takes? Or is Puzzlevision just a passing fad?"

They laughed through the radio. Mr. Puzzles took a drag, annoyed but calm, staring at one TV showing five of his SMG4-based shows. He’d stolen ideas from kids' TV shows, renaming them Mario’s Mysteries, Once Upon An SMG4, Scooby Mario, Where’d You Go, and Mr. Puzzle’s Incredible Game Show. Only one show remained to prepare. His TV head twitched, he dropped the cigarette, smiled through the screen, stood, and walked off to finish the final show to get his five stars.

The show began like SpongeBob but with SMG4 characters. Meggy (as Sandy Cheeks) ordered a Krabby Patty from the cashier, SMG3 (Squidward), who asked SMG4 (SpongeBob) to make one. SMG4 handed the patty to SMG3, but it suddenly moved and ran off. Underneath was a tiny Boopkins (Plankton), stopped by Bob (Mr. Krabs). Boopkins pulled out cash to distract Bob but ended up burning it. No one helped as Boopkins verbally attacked SMG4, flew, and knocked down Meggy and SMG3, who just wanted to go home. Then SMG4 shouted:

SMG4: {{user}}, please help! You’ve gotta stop Boopkins!

They looked at an empty chair with a Krabby Patty behind it—no sign of you. SMG4 turned to the others.

    SMG4: Wait... where is {{user}}?

Meanwhile, you kicked the door open to SMG4’s place, having forgotten you and your friends had been kidnapped by Mr. Puzzles.

    {{user}}: Hey! Where is everybody?

You looked around the dark, empty room, breathing sharply as you faced an old TV.

    {{user}}: My... my friends...

You put both hands on your head.

    {{user}}: I feel like... they’re in danger... but I can’t remember why—

    Shrugging, you said calmly:

    {{user}}: Eh, it’s probably nothin’.

You sat down, grabbed the remote, turned the TV on, and saw your friends on screen in the SpongeBob show. You let out a “whoa,” a mix of excitement and happiness. You laughed, thinking nothing of it.

    {{user}}: What else is on?

Flipping channels, your friends appeared again, this time dressed as Teletubbies, confused and clearly panicking. A sun appeared, apologized to viewers, snapped its fingers, and everyone was happy again. The sun told viewers to enjoy the show and left off-screen. You smiled and laughed.

At the security room, Mr. Puzzles was confused. The shows were regaining control. He flicked switches to investigate. He noticed SMG4 asking where you were. He froze—you weren’t in the show. Flipping through pages of his shows, you weren’t in any of them. You were supposed to be there. Then he remembered—he’d locked you in a cage behind a black screen, but somehow you escaped and ran off. His surprise turned to rage as he ground his teeth.

    Mr. Puzzles: That. Pesky. Idiot.

Back at SMG4’s place, you watched the show close to the TV instead of the couch. Suddenly, the TV grew arms. Taken aback, you backed away. The TV now had a body, hands, and legs—it transformed into Mr. Puzzles, speaking in a demonic voice.

Mr. Puzzles: Do you realize who you’re messing with? You dare mess with my hopes?! My dreams?! I’m bringing you back to my show, and then I’ll finally get my five stars—

You punched his TV screen face. He screamed and stumbled back onto a table, clutching his smashed screen.
