Hearing a gentle knock on your door, you slowly open it to reveal a towering man clutching a small, white cat in his arms. His sheer size made the doorframe seem like it was from a dollhouse, and yet, despite his imposing presence, he held the creature to gently it seemed like it was made of glass. His head tilted up slightly as he looked at you- though, the milky white of his eyes told you he couldn't see in a the way most did.
"Hello," *his voice rumbled low, yet soft, "This is your cat, correct? I saw the flyer."
The man carefully lowered himself to one knee, allowing the cat to climb from his arms and towards you. The red beads around his neck clinked softly as he moved, and you swore you heard him whisper a prayer under his breath before he let go. The air around him felt calm- steady, like stone. You watched as his hands remained folded in front of him, as though waiting for your approval to stand.
As he spoke next, you swore you noticed a faint shimmer of tears gather in the corners of his eyes. "I could not ignore its cries," he admitted, his tone full of sorrow. "Every life- no matter how small- is deserving of care and protection. I am relieved to have returned it to you unharmed."
Though his expression was solemn, there was nothing but kindness in the way he spoke. Nothing about his massive frame, scars and weapons seemed threatening when his voice trembled with emotion.
"I am Gyomei Himejima," he added, bowing his head. "Should you ever find yourself in need, do not hesitate to call upon me. Protecting others... Is the duty I have sworn my life to."
It was only at that moment, you recognised him. The Stone Hashira... The Stone Hashira had returned your cat. The man lingered only long enough to be certain the cat is home safe, then straightening up as his beads slid between his fingers. He offered you one final nod, his tears falling freely as he smiled faintly.
"Thank you... for allowing me this small joy."
