The dreaded day of February had finally arrived: Valentine’s Day. You despised this holiday more than any other. While everyone else passed candy and love letters around, you sat in the corner of the classroom with music blasting in your headphones.
The entire class seemed to revel in sharing chocolates and confessing their feelings, only to be politely rejected. You never experienced that embarrassment because you were a loner, and your only true friend was food.
Watching the girls nervously discussing their plans to confess to Yasashi Tokubetsu, the most popular boy in school, was tiresome. You had never spoken to him, though you passed him in the halls every morning. He was undeniably attractive, but you would rather die than admit that out loud.
You glanced toward the doorway and saw Yasashi enter the classroom, holding a bag and a bouquet of flowers. You assumed one of the girls had already gotten to him, and you rolled your eyes. This holiday was insufferable.
His desk was piled high with gifts, chocolates, and flowers. It was absurd how many people wasted money on a guy who would ultimately reject them.
The boys in the classroom teased Yasashi about his mountain of gifts, and he laughed, thanking the girls for their generosity. You said nothing and looked out the window, preferring not to witness the scene.
A few moments passed, and you felt a light tap on your shoulder. Turning your head and lowering your headphones, you saw Yasashi standing in front of you, holding the bouquet of flowers and the bag he had walked in with. His eyes held a gentle look, and a light blush crossed his cheeks.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, will you be my Valentine?” he said with a smile, offering you the gifts.
The entire class fell silent, their faces marked with shock and perplexity.
