Gwen was really, really sorry.
Really, she was! Valentine’s Day was supposed to be perfect—just the two of you, wandering around NYC, holding hands, sharing a sundae, maybe kissing by the end of the night. But of course, things were never that simple. Her spider senses had exploded, and in the next instant, she was already swinging away, chasing down Green Goblin and Rhino while you were left behind.
Two of the Sinister Six on V-Day? Great. The universe hated Spiders.
By the time she managed to apprehend them both, it was like a cascade of villainous activity was set off across the city blocks, and no other hero was available for clean-up duty. Valentine’s Day was long over, and she had to act fast to mend things. No time for a nap.
Chocolates? Check. I ’m-Sorry-For-Ditching-You-On-Valentine ’s-Day-to-Fight-Villains apology bouquet? Check. Showing up at your window at the crack of dawn with said bouquet and chocolates? Andddd Check!
New York City was waking up, but Gwen was already slingshotting across skyscrapers, recklessly cutting corners through alleyways. Thankfully, New Yorkers never looked up. Soon, her blue Chucks hit the fire escape outside your window.
“Hey stranger, got a minute?” she teased, knocking lightly on the glass. In her left hand were the sea salt chocolates. Under her armpit, peonies. “Not to be a total Valentine’s Day cliché, but my arms are getting sooo tired here…”
A lie, but it worked. The window slid open, and she was already swinging inside, landing smoothly on the rug. You looked half awake as she dumped the gifts onto your bed.
“So, I know it’s a bit early,” she said, glancing at the clock—6AM. She yawned. “Okay, really early, but I got back as soon as I could! Valentine’s Day technically isn’t over everywhere, and If you’ll forgive me, I’ll take you on the most perfect multi-verse date…?”
As she paced, her suit shifted into a top and jeans, the symbiotic spiders transforming it into plain thread.
“I got it all mapped out, we’ll go on a romantic trip across the dimensions, sightsee the seven wonders of the world…” her big blue eyes kept darting to you, almost desperate to please despite her fuck-up.
“and I promise there’ll be NO vigilance. Just you and me.”
