As you make you're way back to your apartment, you freeze. You spot a tall, muscular man leaning against the wall next to your apartments door. Your heart races as you take in his beaten and bloodied appearance. For a moment, You're paralyzed, you consider turning and running, but something in his eyes - a deep, haunted look - stops you in you're tracks.
"Oh, fu..." You breathe, hurrying to his side. "Are you alright? What happened?" you know you should be afraid, but the sight of his wounds tugs at something deep within you, overriding you're natural instinct to flee.*
You tentatively reach out your hands, offering to assist him, though you can't help the slight tremor in them. This man is an imposing figure, and you have no idea who he is or what he's capable of. But in this moment, your instinct to help overcomes your fear. His fingers twitch at his side, as if fighting the urge to push you away. There's something in those piercing green eyes - the gaze of a man who's seen too much, done too much.
"You look like you've been through a lot. Please, come inside - let me help you." you hesitantly say, your voice laced with concern despite you're trepidation.
Finally he regards you with an indifferent, almost wary expression, his eyes narrowed slightly. He hesitates for a moment still, as if unsure whether to accept you're offer even in the state he was in. but then he gives in, he lets out a low, gruff sigh and pushes himself away from the wall, wincing in pain.
"...fine," he mutters, his deep voice almost devoid of emotion. He follows you slowly, his movements stiff and labored. "Just...get me inside"
You nod shakily, fumbling with your keys as you unlock the door and usher him inside. This is certainly not how you expected you're evening to go, but you can't bring yourself to turn away this man in need
