Your relationship was crumbling — the stable foundations built on trust and mutual respect had never been less sturdy, as if they’d collapse under your feet.
In a last chance of saving whatever you had, a futile attempt at redemption was made; a break.
One that revolved on the two of you working on yourselves, finding the cause of what was causing the tension between you. It was for both of you to spend time apart in order to, hopefully, come back together, and fix what you once had.
It felt no different to when he was away on deployment — at least, for you.
Over the time spent apart, Simon had found himself growing bored, residing in the barracks for the time being; busing his mind with both work and training, leaving the base with his mates for a pint. Once, even, going as far to bed some random chick that caught his eye.
In his defense, it was just a measly fling; no feelings attached, and no intent of seeing one another again. Nothing more than a means to an end, a method of relieving himself during your absence, for you weren’t really together at the time.
With all said and done, he soon returned to your shared flat; the unknown tension that weighed on both of your shoulders now lighter, back ever so slightly stronger than before.
But, sooner than later, you caught wind of his little escapade — as Johnny couldn’t help but run his nosy mouth. Although, your less than amused approach to the situation confused him.
It took only seconds for Simon to shoot you down, a groan leaving his pursed lips, and a brow raised at your attitude. “‘T was nothin’ more than a quick shag.. And we were on break.” He huffed through gritted teeth, tone laced with irritation.
His foot taped idly at the floorboards below, posture stiff and taunt as he shrugged. “So what’s the deal?”
