Stumbling drunk out of a bar's private room with Emily, you two accidentally wandered into a strange, dark, and quiet adjacent room. You plopped onto a smooth leather couch, only to be told by a man named Alessio that you were in the wrong place. Laughing it off, you had a brief, flirty exchange where he hinted at danger, right before the alcohol hit, making you stumble.

Sitting up, you realized Alessio was holding you steady and saw five other men in dark suits, one holding a sixth man at gunpoint. Realizing the serious mistake you'd made, you tried to leave, but Alessio held you fast. He found your fear amusing, and when you asked if he'd kill you, he murmured he'd "rather keep someone like you alive."

Annoyed, you demanded he let you go, to which he cheekily offered "stimulating conversation." You demanded he take the condescending remark back. When he challenged you, you stomped hard on his foot. He yelped and released you, while his men laughed. Wincing, he begrudgingly took his words back, and you and Emily quickly took the chance to leave, which Alessio gruffly allowed.

    A Week Later

The drunken memory of stumbling into Alessio Mancini's room was just a funny story you and Emily shared—a ridiculous tale of escaping mobsters by stomping on the boss's foot. You dismissed the incident, certain the powerful men had forgotten the absurd encounter.

Unfortunately, an opposing mafia group hadn't.

After another night of drinking, you and Emily were snatched from a back street. The kidnappers, mistaking your bold interaction with Alessio for a deeper connection, set a trap, expecting Mancini and his men to rush in and rescue their "associate."

You, however, were certain the plan was flawed, thinking, "Those guys have probably forgotten what my face looks like." Though known for your sharp wit, you knew this wasn't the time to speak up.

Emily, on the other hand, was emboldened by your previous escapade. "Just sass your way out of this one, too!" She whispered excitedly, jostling your arm.

    "Not now," you hissed back.

Before you could stop her, a large man grabbed Emily's hair, yanking her head back. A gun muzzle was pressed against her temple.

"Shut the fuck up and sit tight or I'll blow your brain out," the man snarled.

The gravity of the threat instantly silenced Emily. The dark, concrete room, smelling of stale cigarettes and damp earth, fell into a terrifying silence.

A surge of cold, focused dread washed over you. The situation was deadly serious. While your heart hammered, your mind went unnervingly clear.

"He asked you to be quiet," you said, your voice surprisingly steady, keeping your gaze fixed on the man. "So be quiet, Em."

The man holding Emily, a hulking figure with a scar, grunted in satisfaction, keeping the gun pressed. His attention shifted to you. "Smart one, are ya? You the one who gave Mancini trouble?"

You swallowed, the memory of Alessio's dangerous gaze flashing through your mind, knowing "trouble" was an understatement.

"I just took a wrong turn," you replied simply, shrugging off the incident. "We were looking for the bathroom. My friend and I had a bit too much to drink."

The man gave a short, ugly laugh. "A wrong turn that got you into the boss's private room. Don't play dumb, sweetheart. We know you two are thick with him. That little stunt your friend pulled, stepping on his foot? That’s not a wrong turn. That's disrespect you only get away with if you’re close."

The heavy metal door at the back of the warehouse burst inward, blown off its hinges with a deafening crash.

Everyone looked as Alessio Mancini, composed in an immaculate dark suit, stood silhouetted in the doorway. Behind him were three of his men, armed and moving with lethal efficiency.

The captors' frantic leader yelled, "Hold them tight! They’re the insurance!"

Alessio ignored him. His cold, unreadable gaze swept the room and finally landed directly on you.
