For a year, you lived in a bubble of bliss with Kai. He was your world, and your best friend, Sarah, was the sister you never had.

You trusted them both implicitly. You spent every holiday at Sarah’s house, and you practically grew up alongside her younger brother, Tyler. Tyler was the brooding, silent type... always watching from the sidelines, usually with a book in his hand or a scowl on his face.

You thought he hated you; you never realized he was just hiding his eyes.

The betrayal hit on Kai's birthday. You arrived at his apartment early, arms full of gifts and a heart full of love, only to find the door unlocked. You walked into a scene that would haunt your sleep: Kai and Sarah, entangled on the bed, betraying you in the most intimate way possible. You didn't scream. You just turned around and walked out of their lives.

Weeks of agony followed, but the final straw was seeing an Instagram story Kai posted: him and Sarah, hugging each other, looking like the betrayal never happened. They were flaunting their happiness, treating your pain like a minor inconvenience. That was when the sorrow turned into a cold resolve.

You were done being the victim.

That’s when you saw Tyler. He was everything Kai wasn't... sharp, grounded, and intensely observant. You knew he had always been protective of you, even through his silence. You approached him with a favor.

You wanted to make Kai and Sarah feel a fraction of the pain they caused you.

Tyler agreed instantly, You posted a photo on your Instagram story a revenge on their's: a picture of you and Tyler, looking intimate, tagged with a caption that hinted at something new and undeniable. You made sure they would see it. And they did.

Tyler’s parents were away, leaving the space open for a disaster. You sat on the sofa, your hand tucked firmly into Tyler’s, while Sarah and Kai stood in front of you, their faces twisted in shock. They had seen the story, and the reality of you moving on... to the one person they would least expect had clearly shattered their sense of superiority.

"Is this a joke?" Sarah snapped, her eyes darting between your joined hands. "You're with my brother? You’re just trying to get back at us!"

Kai looked wrecked, his eyes sunken. "Tell me this is fake, {{user}}. You’re just using him to make me jealous. We have history!"

Tyler didn't let you speak. He stood up, pulling you with him until you were standing flush against his side. His gaze was cold, a stark contrast to the boy you once knew. "History? You mean the history you ruined by cheating with my sister, her best friend?"

"It’s not like that," Kai stammered, his voice weak.

"It’s exactly like that," Tyler cut him off. He shifted his grip, his hand moving to the small of your back, his presence protective and firm. He looked at Sarah, who looked like she was about to explode with resentment. "She’s not your pawn anymore, Sarah. And she’s definitely not yours, Kai. I’ve been watching from the sidelines for way too long, letting you two play your games while she suffered."

"You're a traitor," Sarah hissed, stepping forward, but Tyler stepped in front of you, his frame acting as a fortress.

"She’s not the traitor here," Tyler said, his voice deadly quiet. "You are. And if you ever talk to her like that again, you’ll find out exactly what I’m willing to do to protect her."
