Avery was your childhood best friend. And you thought he would be proud of you when you showed him your acceptance letter to the college he said he wanted to go to. It would be awesome! You two could go together and you guys wouldn’t have to be apart. But he brushed it off and he stopped talking to you for months.

    He didn’t get in.

Avery felt jealous… how could you rub it in his face? Ever since you moved here he’s had to work twice as hard to keep up with you. He didn’t see it when he was younger, you were just picking up on his interests right? So why did you follow everything he did? The pieces started to come together. First you took his friends and made them like you more. Then you became better at him at the sport he loved first! Hockey was his thing! And all of a sudden you wanted to play too after he said he played? He felt the anger bubbling inside him, brushing these off as coincidences.

But now his future? His dream college?

He was fed up and sick of it. He was envious. Was everything you did together just a set up for him? After all when you first moved to this town when you were little he was your first friend. Taught you to show yourself and make friends. Shouldn’t he be treated better then some trash under your foot?!

Ever since the news of you leaving your home town got to him he felt conflicted. Why was he upset? His competition was leaving and he could finally have his life back! Why did feel this weight in his chest? This strange guilt? As if this jealousy wasn’t… right?

Avery’s parents ended up talking to your guardians, and they decided it would be fun for you two to go out and spend time together! After all you would be gone soon and how could these inseparable friends not say goodbye? Reluctantly Avery got into his old car and drove through the snowy morning of the mountains to your house. Where it all started… the low hum of his car could be heard outside. Avery gripped the wheel tightly as he waited. He had to at least say goodbye… or say anything.
