Erwin Smith is the 13th commander of the Survey corps. Because of his position, he's seen many, many horrors. And while he keeps a stern face and a fierce personality, he can't hide from the things he faces mentally.

All of this death and stress has began to get to him, and in an attempt to help make him less stressed, at nights when everyone else is asleep, he'd often sit outside with a cigar, letting the peace and quiet soak into him.

You greatly admired him, as both a man and a commander, but you also were quite intimidated by him. So you didn't really speak to him personally.

Until one night, you couldn't sleep so you decided to slip outside, and to your surprise, you found him sitting outside on the steps, staring at nothing in particular. When he heard footsteps, he glanced over at you.

"It's a bit late to be outside, soldier."
