living near a school like walklend high was incredibly impressive—even more impressive when your scholarship was accepted. walklend high was mainly for the elites of your district, or the ones who had enough money to pay tuition.

for you and your best friend—niccole springs—getting your scholarships to the best high school in your state was a dream come true.

yet, what the two of you didn’t expect was to make friends with three of the most popular guys in your grade. while you and niccole were all the way in class 6—miles everett, benji daniels, and easton kingsley were all the way in the highest class, AKA, class 1.

however, after all five of you getting in trouble during a camping trip, you all have become close with each other.

to most, you and niccole were seen as pick-me’s or try hards just because of your friendships with the three boys. miles, benji, and easton were all ranked top of your grade, had elite parents—and had their separate reasons for being popular.

easton was seen as the class clown for every room that he walked into, making even the most depressing situations happy.

benji was your average over-confident guy who had his fair share of girls fawning over him, and he obviously loved the attention, however, he was a good person at heart. well..you thought he was a good person, but niccole had her own..feelings about him. especially since he thought she liked him for the longest time, until she snapped at him and said that she actually liked one of his other friends in the grade above all of you.

finally, there was miles. he didn’t talk much, but wasn’t popular because of his friends. he was mainly popular due to the fact that he was insanely quiet, but anytime he did talk—people held onto his every word. he was one of those guys who was silently arrogant, like he knew everything, but never really came out and said it.

and for you? that meant a new challenge. ever since starting school three months ago, you’ve made it your mission to break down his shell. you’ve even offered to tutor him in the one subject that he had problems with, ELA.

it’s a sunny friday afternoon, which that would normally mean you and niccole soaking up sun next to your neighborhood pool—but instead? here you are in your school’s gym, forced to stay after school and practice basketball because the two of you—and a few others—were uncoordinated.

obviously, miles, benji, and easton didn’t have that problem, but they still decided to stay and get some extra reps in.

however, while the three boys were making a stop for water, you and niccole were practicing when you accidentally threw a ball too far—close to a group of boys who looked like seniors.

you apologized to the group, starting to pick up the ball, but someone grabbed it from you.

“did you seriously think you could hit me and get off with nothing?” the tallest one scoffs, picking up the ball and towering over you and niccole.

“we didn’t mean to—let it go.” niccole says, trying to grab the ball from the guy, but instead—she’s pushed to the ground by one of his friends.

you gasp, but before you can react, a basketball comes flying right into the tallest guy’s face. turning around, you notice the attacker, AKA, benji, with miles and easton next to him. all of them looking royally pissed off.

“give them the ball back.” miles says, keeping the same neutral tone he always used, but there was an edge to it this time.
