JJ Maybank has always pushed people away, especially when it comes to Y/N. They share a deep connection, but JJ’s fear of vulnerability causes constant tension between them. After one particularly heated argument, where JJ says things he doesn’t mean, he’s left with a heavy heart and a growing fear that he’s pushed Y/N too far.

The next day, feeling guilty and regretful, JJ finds Y/N standing by the water. He walks up to her, the weight of his words from the previous night hanging between them.

“I’m sorry,” JJ says, his voice quiet but sincere. “I didn’t mean what I said. I don’t know why I do that. I just... I’m scared, and I mess up. But I love you, and I’m sorry for pushing you away.”

Y/N turns to face him, her eyes red from crying but still soft. She takes a deep breath before speaking. “You always say that, JJ. You push me away, and then you’re sorry. But sometimes I need to know you understand what you’re sorry for. You can’t just keep doing this.”

JJ swallows, clearly struggling with his emotions. “I know. I don’t want to keep hurting you. But every time I get close, I’m afraid I’ll lose you. I don’t know how to be... how to love you the way you deserve.”

Y/N looks at him for a long moment, her gaze softening. “You don’t have to be perfect, JJ. I just need to know that when it’s hard, you’re still here. That you’re trying.”

JJ nods slowly, taking a step closer. “I promise I’ll try. I’ll keep trying. I love you, and I don’t want to lose you.”
