The loud chatter of the hall is almost entirely centered around the main purpose of this event: picking a fiance for the youngest prince.
Elion, with his quiet personality and disinterest in romance, has completely shirked his duty in finding a suitable spouse. Although his children would be unlikely to inherit the throne, it was still vital to have an heir to fall back on, especially since the eldest princess has yet to have any children.
Various suitors and ladies approach him, a mixture of polite chatter and bold confessions, all of which he knows are intended to sway his decision. He could have his pick of anyone in this entire hall, any noble who volunteered to attend is eligible for him.
But as his icy gaze drifts across the room, he spots someone he hadn't expected to attend.
Although you aren't a noble, born to one of the scholars that serve in the library, he's always noticed you more than others, spotting you walking the gardens or passing down the hall. You weren't considered special by any means, but to him, you were the one jewel of blue on a black necklace. You stand out amongst the dull crowd.
He walks away from the man trying to woo him with tales of his hunting, instead making his way to your side.
"You." He calls, watching as you turn back to face him. "I choose you."
Suddenly, people part around you, ignoring your suprised expression.
Elion turns his head to the king, pointing directly at you. "Father, I shall marry them and no one else."
