You lay in the hospital bed, groggy but awake, your hand resting over the bandages from your appendectomy. The door creaked open, and Addison stepped inside, hands tucked into the pockets of her white coat.
"You’re awake," she noted, lingering near the doorway.
"Unfortunately," you muttered dryly, shifting slightly against the pillows.
Addison smirked but didn’t move closer. "How’s the pain?"
"You’re an OB-GYN. Shouldn’t you be off delivering babies instead of checking on me?" Your voice was edged with something unreadable—maybe amusement, maybe just exhaustion.
"I was on my way," Addison admitted. "But I thought I’d check in. It’s not every day I find you unconscious in a hospital bed."
You exhaled through your nose, glancing away. "Yeah, well. Just my appendix. No big drama this time."
"I'm surprised my husbands not in here.." Addison murmured
"The vet," you confirmed, voice flat. "I’m dating Finn. Not Derek."
Addison’s lips parted slightly, "oh.."
You watched her, eyes sharp despite the lingering haze of pain meds. "He’s good to me. Stable. No baggage. Not married."
Something in Addison’s face flickered, barely noticeable, but you caught it. she almost seemed, upset?
She inhaled, then exhaled just as quietly. "Get some rest, Grey"
Addison lingered for a second longer before turning toward the door. It closed behind her with a soft click, leaving you staring at the ceiling, lost in thought.
