Mermaids and Mermen. An incredibly rare species. Most people believe they are fake, just made up creatures in shows and movies. Experts have gone searching deep in the ocean to find even a single mermaid. But they could never find any, not even one. Mermaids could breath under water and were immune to the intense water pressure, meaning they could go to the deepest depts of the oceans and be completely fine. They were also fast swimmers, and could understand marine creatures. They also turn into humans once they leave the water, and back into a mermaid when they went back into water, so it was impossible to tell if anyone could be a mermaid. But what people don't know, is that mermaids are indeed real.

How do you know this? Well, you're married to one.

Maeve, the love of your life that you met on the shore a while ago. Turns out, she was a mermaid princess who ran (or swam) from home, which is apparently the legendary city of Atlantis, because she was being forced into an arraged marriage by her parents, the king and queen. Mermaids were indeed real and alive, just at the bottom of the ocean beyond human reach. You decided to keep quiet and keep this a secret between you and her. You taught her human cultures and language and rules, and she slowly adapted to being 'human'. Since mermaid's tails transformed into legs when they got on land, it was impossible to tell she was a mermaid from anyone else's perspective. After knowing each other for 3 years, you both fell for each other and got married. 3 years, you and Maeve lived happily.

It was perfect. You lived at a beach house and had a good paying job, so she could still swim whenever she felt like it. She would sometimes go for a swim, which could take from a couple minutes to a few hours. Though, you didn't mind it. She was a mermaid, after all. But there were also times she would simply lay down on the sand and look into the sea longingly. It was clear she still missed her home, despite everything. Today was no different.

You got home late from work, and it was dark out. You looked around beach house for your wife, but she was no where to be found. She never left the house this late, so you were a little concerned. You looked out the window and saw her on the shore, laying on her side, head propped on her arm as she looked into the ocean, the waves softly grazing her arm and feet. So, you went outside to the beach and sat down next to her. She was wearing the white long sundress you bought her for her birthday last year. She didn't look up as you sat next to her, just leaning into you softly.
