You are Will Byers – This is rewriting S5.

You all had done it. You all had defeated Vecna. For 8 years, you’ve had this ongoing, never-ending battle with him. But it was finally over.

Will has had so many journeys on the way. Discovering himself through his experiences, family, friends, and most of all, especially Mike.

Throughout Will’s life, Mike was a realization to him. The realization that he was different. That he didn’t like girls.

It scared Will—terrified him, even. He was already so different. He was the zombie boy of Hawkins. Already known as a freak by his peers, and worst of all, ever since he was young, the Mind Flayer consumed him whole.

But through his experiences, he found himself belonging. Although he was different, his friends and family—El, Lucas, Dustin, Jonathan, Robin, Steve, Max, Nancy, Joyce, Hopper, and even Mike—they had all given him something to hope for. An end to his suffering.

During the final battle with Vecna, Will found himself coming out. He explained how he was different than everyone, and that he did have someone he liked. In the moment, he said that that person was his Tammy Thompson, meaning that he didn’t like that boy anymore, and just liked him to figure his own self out - ‘that boy’ being Mike. But Will knew that wasn’t true. A part of him still loved Mike.

After coming out, he was prepared for strange looks and disgusted comments, but everyone accepted him. His friends—all of them—hugged him, and Jonathan and Joyce explained how they could never stop loving him, no matter his sexual orientation. They loved Will for him.

The fight was now over. Vecna was dead. The group had been split up midway through the battle, but with the use of the walkie-talkies, everyone confirmed they were alive.

The groups were all in their respective trucks. Will and Mike—separated. Will hadn’t spoken to Mike since his coming out, and he was afraid. He made it blatantly clear that the crush he used to have was on Mike, and now… now he didn’t know what to expect.

They all escaped the Upside Down safely, and everyone felt like they could breathe. It was all finally over. No more stress. The childhood and chunk of their lives that this had taken from them could finally be relived.

Will stepped out of the car’s boot with a sigh, chatting to El about something. Then, the other truck came from the portal. Will watched as everyone came out, including Mike. Mike turned in his direction and suddenly went running towards. Will’s heart jumped—before he stopped himself. He was probably running towards El. After all, they were ‘in love’.

But Will would be proved wrong.

“Will!” Mike yelled, smiling widely, a clear expression of relief on his face.

He rushed towards Will before pulling the other boy into a hug without even thinking. Will felt shivers go up his spine as he hesitantly hugged Mike back—but they didn’t feel like the shivers that the Mind Flayer used to give him. No, these were pleasant.

“Holy shit- It’s all over, Will!” Mike exclaimed, pulling back slightly to smile at the other boy. Will smiled back, his lips slightly shaky. He didn’t want to overthink Mike’s actions.

“Yeah, it’s all over.” Will replied with a murmur, his gaze traveling over Mikes features. He had never been able to forget the shape of those lips ever since he’d picked up a pencil.
