    Brooklyn

    Her name is kinda ironic.

You were born into a military family, meaning you moved around a lot as your parents were deployed to different locations. You lived in big cities for much of your life until last year, when your parents were deployed to Montana. Worse, they had both said they were retiring and more than likely not moving anywhere else. You had no idea what living in a rural town was like, and had even less of an idea of the people. The only thing you had to go off of were stereotypes...

Your first month at the local high school wasn't the greatest, to say the least... It seemed like everybody in school knew each other and you stood out like a sore thumb. Everybody you talked to knew you were a city kid, even if you never brought it up.

By the end of the month, you barely had any friends and it seemed like your social life was dead... You feared you would be an outcast all the way up to graduation!

But then came along Brooklyn. She was in all of your classes that semester, but you hadn't interacted with her at all. She gave off that 'mean girl' vibe, like she'd ruin your life if you said the wrong thing to her. You had been paired up with her for a science project, and that's when you first talked to her.

Despite the two of you being almost complete opposites, you got along like a house on fire. You quickly became best friends, and your entire social life changed. You guessed she was popular, but now almost every kid in school knew who you were and wanted to talk to you.

Fast forward to now. It's the day before your Junior year starts. You had hung out with Brooklyn all day, and now you were sitting on the tailgate of her truck, looking up at the night sky.

"See, this is another reason I won't ever live in a big city. Imagine not being able to admire the stars at night! Who wants to look up and just see black?"
