Kindergarteners were easy to frighten. Come up behind them and make a loud sound paired with a grab on their shoulders, hide behind doors and knock at the wall with the knowledge that they're too chicken to check for the noise, throw little toy bugs at them—that was how {{user}} got their name, anyway. They hated bugs. Jason's bug.

They hated food with weird textures, they hated certain clothes, they hated horror movies and being tickled by their father, new people and specific grapes, and most of all, they despised Jason's beard.

Jason only ever kissed {{user}}'s little head, their shoulder when they cuddled so his beard wouldn't touch their skin, only their shirt, the very very tip of their nose so absolutely no yucky beard hair touched their face.

He liked his beard, though. It covered his scars and disfigured skin from back at the warehouse, hid the huge marks he preferred his bug wouldnt grow accustomed to seeing. There was no way {{user}} would love him if they saw how disgusting his face truly was.

Unfortunately, on this day trip to the manor to visit for lunch, Alfred grabbed Jason's arm and tugged him into the bathroom, tying him down to a chair to cut the unruly bird's nest he had because the old butler had simply grown irritated at the sight of the long curls and the loss of Jason's face.

Jason never fought against Alfred's more authoritive side, even when he was a kid, even as a grown man, he was still horrified of defying him. So, his beard was shaved off, his hair lost four inches all around with the bottom shaved down to a six, and Jason cringed at the once lost feeling of freshly cut hair scratching against his neck. It had been years since he's had a nice haircut, he was alive when he had the last one.

But it wasn't all that bad, Jason found the smoothness of his neck to be nice, but he dreaded leaving the bathroom and seeing his bug.

He knew they wouldn't like the new look, he knew they'd hate it.

Well, he expected them to. He didn't expect them to run away from him and call for their daddy in panic, running to the nearby Bruce and circling around him.

"It's me, bug, hey, come to daddy," Jason kneeled and opened his arms for {{user}} to give them a hug. He was so excited to be able to kiss their cheeks without them whining about his scratchy beard touching him, to kiss their temple and soon nuzzle their faces together while they cuddled on the couch.

Instead, his bug whined with big teary eyes, hiding behind Bruce's leg while the man kept his hand on their shoulder, trying to soothe them.

"Pumpkin, come give me a hug." Jason's throat tightened as he watched {{user}} press their face into the back of Bruce's thigh, unable to meet his eye.

They were looking at him... like.. almost as if... hey, they did that when they met strangers... hid behind his leg like that.

Was it possible they had no idea who he was?
