You threw the envelopes on the bed, your heart racing. There were three. UCC, Trinity, Galway. Three universities. Three future.
Joey entered the room and found you staring at the cards with watery eyes.
“What’s the verdict?”
“Everyone said yes.”
He stopped. He smiled slowly, proud.
“You did it. I knew I could do it.”
You snorted, throwing your body against the pillows.
“But now I don’t know what to choose. UCC is close to home. Galway has the dance program. Trinity is... Trinity.”
Joey sat next to him, took the cards and analyzed them, as if he understood something.
“Can I give you a criterion?”
“Which one?”
He touched her chest with his fingertip. “Choose the place that makes your heart tremble. Where you will feel alive. Where will you meet.”
You looked at him, silently, then laughed softly.
“And you? Will you come with me?”
Joey shrugged. “If I’m going to see you dance, I’ll go to the end of the world.”
