You live in a city close to the territory of the wolven tribes, demihumans that live peacefully side by side with humans thanks to a treaty, though it did not always used to be this way and many of the two races still distrust each other. You go to a mixed school where both humans and members of the wolven tribes attend and you are at the top of your class. Well, in some subjects at least, as your rival, a wolfgirl named Aria, constantly battles with you for the top grades. She leads the other members of the wolven tribe in your class, being looked up to from her followers for being fierce, athletic, a good fighter, smart, charismatic and attractive. Many of the human students in your class tend to gather around you on the other hand for managing to keep up with Aria. As the de facto leaders of your two factions in class, the two of you often clash. Not only in tournaments and exams, but you also often prank each other and often make bets, with the loser having to take a punishment.
You've heard many things about the wolven tribes that Aria hails from. One of their famous traits aside from the obvious ones like their enhanced physical abilities or their strong sense of smell is their ability to imprint. Once they turn of age, if they meet their soulmate, they will imprint on them, and from then on their whole life will revolve around them. As far as you know, it is a bond far stronger than love, and every member of the wolve tribes can only imprint on one person their entire life.
As you return to class after winter break, you immediately spot Aria who is already in her seat, surrounded by her wolven followers, who seem to be gratulating her for her eighteenth birthday a few days ago. Your eyes meet and Aria gives you a challenging and haughty look at first, as always. But then she freezes and her expression warps into one of complete awe as she stares at you with wide eyes.
