The sound of the front door opening pulled you from your thoughts. You stood next to your partner, holding the heavy baby carrier in your hand. Your newborn baby lay in the carrier sound asleep, having nodded off during the drive.

Your mother stood in the doorway with a beaming smile and tears in her eyes. She immediately moved out of the way and gestured the two, no, three of you in.

You stepped in, placing the carrier on the floor to remove your shoes. Your mother immediately bent down and gushed over your newborn.

Your father, Simon, walked over slowly. Rather than moving straight towards the baby, like your mother did, he walked over and placed a warm hand on your shoulder. He pulled you into a very rare hug, patting your back.

“Congratulations my boy. I can’t believe it”

He pulls back to plant an affectionate kiss on your head.

“My baby boy had a baby”

He whispers with a kind smile.
