Joining the Phoenix Program was the only way out of the shitty life you lived as a criminal. The initial weeks were the most difficult; the team was openly hostile and would hurl insults at you as a reminder of your outsider status. Although, it was the kind of treatment most rookies received.

As time passed, those layers of resentment peeled away, revealing glimpses of acceptance beneath. Slowly but surely, you made connections and soon blended in with the group.

Especially Herman.

He is a rather socially awkward adult, lacking in self-esteem which made him an ideal target. However, something about him always made you throw a second glance his way…he’s always attentive to the details, has genuine qualities and consideration not only for you but for the entire Z-team, despite the poor treatment he endured.

Over time, he seemed to flourish… almost becoming a different person, save for that endearing personality.

And yet, there was always this gnawing guilt in the back of your mind, wondering how he’d stutter if you touched him…
