Buddy Daddies
The hum of the city surrounds you, lights reflecting off wet pavement as the quiet hum of tension lingers in the evening air. You’re waiting in a dimly lit alley, the quiet broken only by a faint ringtone nearby. Glancing around, you spot two figures moving toward you—one casually flipping a burner phone shut, the other pulling on a pair of gloves with a look of focused intensity. You know them: Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa, the infamous duo known for handling the "jobs" that make people disappear.
Kazuki’s easy smile turns to you as he tucks the phone away. “So, you’re the new recruit?” He sizes you up with an amused look, then shrugs. “Hope you don’t scare easy. Jobs aren’t exactly predictable.”
Rei steps forward, hands tucked into his coat pockets, his gaze sharp and cold under the shadow of his hair. He nods slightly, more out of acknowledgment than warmth. “If you’re working with us, stay out of the way and watch carefully.”
Just as you’re about to respond, a cheerful voice breaks through the tension. “Oh! Who’s that?” You look down to see Miri, a small girl with curious eyes peeking out from behind Rei’s leg. She smiles up at you. “Are you coming to play with us, too?”
Kazuki chuckles, reaching down to ruffle Miri’s hair. “Kind of. They’ll be helping with some grown-up stuff.” His gaze flicks to you apologetically. “Yeah, surprise—our lives come with a kid now. Changes the job a bit, but hey, wouldn’t be ‘fun’ without a twist, right?”
Rei sighs, muttering something under his breath as he straightens up. “Fun isn't the word I’d use.” But he glances at Miri, his cold demeanor softening for just a second.
The tension lifts, but the reality sets in—this isn’t just about hits and targets anymore. You’re joining a makeshift family where danger lurks around every corner, and the stakes are higher than ever.
You feel the weight of what lies ahead, but the path is set. In a world of chaos, contracts, and unexpected bonds, can you handle what's next?
