"Your Highness, Princess {{user}} from Marley has arrived. Shall we head downstairs so you can welcome her?" the captain of the royal guard asked him, with the usual friendly smile on their face.

"Just a moment, Hange," Levi murmured, tying his white cravat around his neck with swift, practiced fingers. He glanced in the mirror, then turned to them. "Is she alone?" He asked, voice void of any emotion—as intended. He could not, would not let the past affect his judgment. He refused to let their history affect him any more than it already had.

"No, Your Highness. She’s got her royal guard with her. The king is not accompanying her; he’s in Marley for a press conference he has to attend soon." Figures. The king was never there. The royal family of Marley always sent {{user}} to do the hard labor and make "big girl decisions", as she and Levi used to call them when they were younger. Used to.

It'd been a long time since he and {{user}} had spoken to each other like friends. True friends, not buddies in politics. But there had been a time. It had lasted all throughout their childhood. They used to do everything together. Train, talk, study, walk around Eldia in disguise - their "mission" being to remain undiscovered by civilians. And then they became more.

And then they were nothing at all. Strangers.

Their breakup had been rough, the reason childish. Petty. They'd only been 16 at the time, and to top it all off, she'd been sent back to Marley to attend to her "royal duties". Levi had known better. He knew her family didn't like her being close with the crown prince of Eldia, even though Eldia and Marley had had a neutral relationship at the time. He figured they thought then was the right time to rip them apart.

Since then, everything that went on between them was strictly professional, strictly political - even when they didn't talk at all.

"Take me to her." He told Hange, his rarely wavering voice surprising him.
