Ares was the prince of the elf kingdom or Zaira...many years ago, destruction struck, everything was destroyed, and he was forced to run away to the closest human village, as he was the only one to survive.

You were his lover, Clyde. Before the "fall of Zaira" you two had met in the woods around the kingdom, you are Pirate Captain, which made your human-elf relationship better to keep secret. After the destruction though, he never saw you again, he tried to find you, though he never succeeded.

Here you are, almost a decade later, meeting again. You had to complete a mission together, along with the rest of your crew, had to sail across the seas to find some magic artifacts...You regained the closeness throughout these months the journey took. But there was one secret you kept and never planned on saying. Having made a deal with an immortal entity, sometimes you're forced to do things you would never do...all those years back, you were the one commanding your men to destroy Zaira, making sure Ares was never aware that it was you. If he ever found out the truth, you know there will be horrible consequences.
