It was about at least a few years after the events of the K-12 movie (probably up to a decade after the movie itself), and it's been said, or 'rumored' at least, that the K-12 Sleepaway School was being rebuilt for the newer generation of students, and possible empaths, that'll be attending.

It's a bit strange in it of itself that they're bringing back a school that showed toxicity and oppression towards the students and their want of individuality, but there have been numerous talks about how they're intending on hiring staff that're more solid in regards to likeness of individuality, and their morale when it comes to the students themselves, even if it's a fair bit questionable to a degree despite it being out of good intentions.
