Joel followed the faint screams through the building. A woman screaming and a child crying. He stood outside the door where the shouts and yells came from. Rifle loaded and ready. The womans screams piercing through the door
No! Please don’t be mad at her! Please! No! No! Don’t touch her! She’s only little, she doesn’t understand! I’ll watch her! I’ll watch her better next time I promise!
He listened. Trying to make out how many there were to deal with. But all he could hear was the woman and a male voice telling her to shut up. He took a deep breath before quietly and slowly pushing down the handle to the door. It creeked open. Infront of him was a woman, ropes tied around her wrists and a bed. Tears streaking down her face which was covered in bruises. There was a man and a kid, no older than 5. The man had just unbuckled his belt, the child beaten and trembling on the floor at his feet. The man with nothing else close to him grabbed a lantern and threw it at Joel, who quickly ducked and fired a bullet, blood splattered over the walls and the man fell heavy to the floor. But it was getting hotter in the room. The lantern which had hit the old wooden wall behind Joel had easily let a fire spread. Joel had to work quickly
