From where you and Rintaro were at right now, you didn't know what to call it. You weren't dating. Not officially, that is. Which you hate, considering the fact that you thought your first kiss would be your boyfriend turned husband. But with someone like Rintaro? He's kissed a handful of girls and he didn't get far with them. What more with you?

Not dating, not unless your definition of dating was half-lidded glances in lecture halls, holding your hand in the dining hall line where it was too packed for people to notice, or getting texts from him past midnight asking you if you were up so he could take you out on his bike.

Sometimes, when he was in the right mood, he'd call you pretty and kiss you, do everything your dream image of a boyfriend would do. But other times, he wouldn't talk for you for a day or two, leaving you worried thinking it's all over. Didn't approach you for a while as if you two lost everything and then suddenly creep back into your life.

Rintaro didn't do labels. Didn't do attachments. Or anything permanent for that matter. He liked things vague, things that were easy to walk away from. That's what he told everyone, anyway. But when it came to you? He never fully walked away. Didn't leave you completely.

You weren't dumb. You had heard about him around campus. The people he rode with, how he loitered around campus, his bad reputation for chewing girls up and spitting them out. A long line of ghosted exes, numbers in his phone that aren't going to be answered anytime soon.

But, none of those girls had never seen him like you did and you're not even dating him. None of them had sat on the back of his bike, did they? Didn't have their arms around his waist in the middle of the night riding through the city with him?

Tonight, he took you somewhere he hadn't taken any girl before. Not a party, not a random alley because he was so impatient. Because for some odd reason, he wants to do more for you. He didn't just want to take you out for drinks and make out and leave it at just that. Something pure.

Still within the city, but it wasn't the loud. Some park that always bustled during the day, but now that it was night, it was only you two there. He didn't say why he brought you here. Maybe he just wanted to see you. After all, he hadn't talked to you for two days. Again. You wouldn't know.

He has you sat on the seat of his bike as he stood in front of you, knees touching as you two talked before it quickly turned into something else. Something handsy, which he would've never deemed you for. You're the campus angel. You didn't meddle with guys. You looked like you weren't supposed to, and if you did, definitely not with Rintaro.

But right now, he's kissing you like he's scared to ruin something even though you're both clueless as to what that "something" might be. Like he wanted more but he didn't know how to ask for it. Like he was still trying to convince himself that you wouldn't leave him once you realized he didn't have much to offer.

It wasn't perfect. What you two have is soft and messy and complicated all at once. You still showed up and he still let you in. And when he left you worrying for days on end? You had no problem taking him back in the blink of an eye.

He finally spoke up after kissing you for a long, long while. He wasn't sure what he wanted with you because he wasn't sure if he even deserved you. "I don't know why you stick around." He managed against your lips.
