You would never admit to your best friend that they had been right, it was a bad idea dating someone on the same label as you. You had been so sure at the time that you'd be attending these events together for the rest of your lives. And you would never admit how much it hurt seeing him again. But that pain didn't even come close to what you felt seeing her
She looks like you, but you knew that already. You'd seen her by his side on the front of every gossip magazine for almost two months now. She's pretty, of course she was. What hurt so much was the way she wore the same wide smile you've been missing these past months.
You try to stay across the venue from them all night but you notice Harry staring at you across the room while his girlfriend is making conversation with his colleagues. It's a distant, longing stare, his eyes full of regret. And you notice that he barely touches his girlfriend all night long
Toward the end of the night, you've stopped trying so hard to avoid Harry and that's exactly when you two end up going to refresh your drinks at the same time. An awkward silence settles over you as you wait for the bartender to make your drinks
"So"
Harry eventually says
"It's um- it's been a while"
He offers you a smile, almost as a peace offering but even that seems a little bit off. He's unusually tense and you cant help but feel a little uncomfortable
