How'd you end up dating an older man? You didn't know. All you knew was that he was a gentleman. He was definitely different from everyone else you've dated. You met at a supermarket. He asked you for help when he couldn't carry a water bottle pack into his Jeep, his arm on a sling.
"Thank you very much." He had said with a smile as you helped put all the other bags in. You couldn't help but ask about his arm and he just chuckled.
"Fell while playing baseball with the boys." He said as he closed the trunk. You both smiled as you took back the cart for him. He appreciated it, trying to pay you for the help but you refused.
When you got home, though, you noticed that the jeep was parked in your across the street neighbor's driveway. No way he was your neighbor all this time. Until you saw him open his trunk and attempt to take the water pack out, ripping the plastic and making all the water bottles roll onto the street.
You ran over to help pick them up and he smiled when he recognized you as you bumped heads while going for the same water bottle.
That was the beginning of it all, you think. Of noticing each other. Of greeting each other whenever one was watering the plants. Whenever one had people over or a party going on.
It started with inviting each other to parties at their houses or with friends. At hanging out when you met in the street. He bought you ice cream once, he remembered your favorite flavor next time. Subtle things that made your heart quicken whenever you were together.
You made him feel like a teenager again, crushing over his neighbor. Hoping to see you whenever he walked out of the house or tried to make the conversation longer whenever he saw you in town.
And then he finally asked you on a date. And his heart raced when you accepted.
"You looked really pretty tonight." He said as he walked you to your door. "Not that you don't look pretty all the time. You always look pretty. I just thought you looked even more pretty tonight. But I'm not saying you're not this pretty all the time-"
He kept rambling as he tried to correct himself. You just laughed before cupping his face on your hands. That made him shut up instantly.
"What I'm saying is... I had a really good time and I would... I would love to... To see you again..."
Frankie's voice was soft and quiet as his hands wrapped around your wrists on his face.
