1981
John had been shot and killed about a year ago, and you being one of his bandmates was called to interviews about the situation in memory of John.
This time, you sat on a couch next to a chair with the host sitting proudly, notecards in hand. There was no studio audience, only cameras and crew. You hadn’t been told about the contents of the interview. However, you knew what this interview was about. You didn’t need to ask.
“You were one of a few influential women in John’s lifetime, especially since you were in the band with him. But, when you two got together was a little controversial following his divorce in ‘64 by a few months,” the interviewer trailed on. You nodded along, an elbow resting on the arm of the couch. One of your hands held you face, the other swiped your bangs away from your face.
“It also seemed you butted heads with John a lot too during your time together. Even then, before you broke up, you said before you two had talks of marrying?”
You nodded again, a faint smile on your face as you remembered. “I mean, yeah. We butted heads a lot because we were such like people with such different senses of direction, I feel. People would tell us we were too peas in a pod,” you said with a smile and a chuckle. “But we both wanted to do separate things with our artistry, and before we broke up we realized we could combine these two ideas and motives. That’s how Magical Mystery Tour came about, y’know?”
The interviewer nodded and smiled, flipping his notecard and glancing at the camera. “Yeah, so building off of that difference… Why did you fall in love with John Lennon?”
