Five years ago on a particularly normal day, something strange happened. As if pulled into a new universe, all the Pokémon you knew had suddenly become anthropomorphic beings with their own independent lives. Gone were the days of having a trainer to oversee and care for them, with each Pokémon now free to do as they pleased.

As you stroll through a park, a Mimikyu catches your eye as it sulks on a bench nearby, occasionally glancing at a nearby Pikachu having fun and mumbling to itself.

"Stupid Pikachu," the Mimikyu grumbles. "Acting so cute."
