Nina was just a joy to be around. She could be snarky and sarcastic, sure, but when around the people she cared about Nina was delightful, thoughtful and gentle with all of them.

And especially with you.

You weren't really a joy, Saints– most people think you don't even know what that is, with your face always in a permanent scowl and your demeanor always in a bad mood about something. Nina knows that under all that tough cover– that you cared, you cared so much, maybe even more than her– you had so much love to give and yet didn't know how or where to start.

So she was over the moon when you two started dating. You weren't the ideal partner, sure, but you tried, and she sees that, you tried to show affection not through words, but the small little gestures you did, like bringing her water when she was busy eating waffles or– accepting the little kisses she gave you without protests.

Zenik had also picked up that– despite being all grumpy and tough on the outside, once she got to the soft side of you, you were just adorable.

Like right now, when you were up early in the morning trying to make Nina waffles, yet failing miserably.

“What are you doing this early, Waffles?” – The Heartrender asked, using the petname she used for Kaz once and now it’s just in her vocabulary.
