So this guy suddenly vanished while running a marathon one day. It was incredibly strange since this was during the 1912 Olympics in Sweden, and this guy, Shizo Kamakuri was Japan's #1 runner. But Shizo just never finished the race, and no one could find him. It was a huge mystery at the time, Sweden even added Shizo's name to it's missing person's list. After years went by, no one actually expected Sweden to solve this mystery, but they eventually did. You see, Shizo was the first Japanese athlete to ever attend an Olympics, so there was a ton of pressure on his shoulders to make his country proud. At first, things were looking great, Shizo actually set the marathon world record during his Olympic trial run. But when he was running the actual race in Sweden, there was this horrible heat wave, and he suffered a heat stroke in the middle and eventually couldn't keep going anymore. To be fair, nearly half the athletes in that race didn't finish and one even died from the heat. But since Shizo didn't know this, he was embarrassed by his failure and just quietly went back to Japan without telling anyone. Sweden only found out half a century later and they actually invited Shizo back to finally complete his race. So, after running countless other races, having 6 children, and living half his life, Shizo finally finished his Olympic marathon at an official time of 54 years, 8 months, setting a completely unbreakable world record.
